Think of something that sucks. Feel that. Now think of something that's awesome. Feel that too. I'm betting you'd like more awesome, less suck. Well, me too. And lately things have been getting more awesome. All because I realized, and embraced, a simple principle:
THE AWESOME PRINCIPLE
If it’s not awesome, chuck it. People. Jobs. Places. Stuff. If it makes you happy, challenges you, adds something to your life, brings you pizza, keep it. It’s that simple. Surround yourself with awesome, and you can’t be anything but.
THE KEYS TO AWESOME
Obviously just handing you the keys and letting you drive off the lot with it isn't very responsible of me, so let me clarify 'The Principle' for best results:
1. It's your 'awesome'
My awesome and your awesome aren't the same. Don't take someone else's awesome and try to make it yours. Dig deep. Make sure you're going after whatever reverberates as awesome in your core and keep checking in on that in case it shifts along the way. If and when it does, adjust accordingly.
2. You wear the pants
The good and the bad — it’s all yours. You’re in charge of everything. If you don’t like something, change it. If someone else doesn’t like what you love, shrug it off. Remember that you can do whatever you want, so long as it’s awesome, always. No one else is in your way. Only you are.
Does it sound stupid simple? It is. Which is what makes it so hard. It's easy to go with the flow and end up at not-awesome. It's hard to actively choose. To say no. To stick with it. But it gets easier. And things get awesomer.
